Younger riders who've never heard Pryde's story are still benefiting from the expectations he established. They're shopping in a market that was forced, by his example, to take quality seriously. They're riding gear that had to meet a standard set by someone who refused to let Maui's conditions be used as an excuse for compromise.

What It Means for the Riders Coming Up Now

For anyone getting serious about windsurfing today—whether you're working your way through intermediate conditions or starting to think about performance gear—understanding this history actually matters practically. The equipment landscape you're shopping in was shaped by a specific philosophy: that gear should answer to the water's demands, not the manufacturer's production convenience.
